• Anchoring a full seating group. Unlike a medium rug placed under just a coffee table, a large rug is typically sized to sit under all four legs of a sofa and chairs, so the whole seating arrangement reads as one connected space.
• Full coverage for a dining table. A large rug needs enough overhang that chairs can be pulled out from the table without catching an edge - even with six or eight place settings.
