Two things define it. First, it's a kilim: flat-woven, with no pile and no knots, the pattern built right into the weave. Second, it follows the vegetable-dye tradition. The name comes from the plant-based dyes these kilims were traditionally colored with, and it has come to describe a whole look: gentle, earthy color, a thin and flexible build, and bold geometric patterns that read clearly without feeling harsh.

The Story Behind Vegetable Kilims

Flat-weaving is one of the oldest rug techniques there is, and the word kilim itself comes from Turkish. The tradition grew across Anatolia and Central Asia, where weavers wove kilims for the floor, for bedding, and for the walls of tents.
